HOMECOMING AT IWU: In the last 36 years, Illinois Wesleyan football teams are 25-11 in Homecoming games at Illinois Wesleyan Stadium. In the 1998 Homecoming game, IWU drilled Augustana, 42-6 and IWU shut out the Vikings, 21-0, in the 1992 Homecoming tilt.
LAST WEEK: The Illinois Wesleyan defense limited North Park to 39 yards of total offense and only two first downs in a 37-0 shutout win. Junior linebacker Mike Clark (Joliet, West HS) had six solo tackles and assisted on three more to lead IWU. Senior Brad Andrekus (Carol Stream, Glenbard North HS) assisted on four tackles and had an interception. Senior Aaron Telford (Bloomington, Central Catholic HS) rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries while senior Kyle Eash (Bloomington HS) ran for 53 yards and completed six of 10 passes for 158 yards and three TDs. Sophomore Tim Snyder (Glen Ellyn, Glenbard South HS) had seven catches for 154 yards . . . IWU amassed 513 yards of total offense on 77 plays.

FOR THE RECORD: IWU teams are 41-22 (.651) in October in the Norm Eash era . . .The Titans are 51-14 (.785) at home and 43-25-1 on the road (.630) under Eash. . .IWU is 40-7 (.851) at Wilder Field in the last 11 years, including 2001 . . .Dating back to 1995, IWU has won 46 of its last 56 games (.821) and has been over the .500-mark for seven straight years and 11 of the last 12 years. . . Prior to a Sept. 8 loss at Washington U., IWU had won 11 straight regular season non-league games, dating back to a 24-21 loss to Simpson in 1995.
THE COACHES: Norm Eash, a 1975 IWU graduate, is in his 15th season as head coach at Illinois Wesleyan. He has an overall record of 94-39-1 (.705) and a CCIW mark of 73-31-1 (.700) with conference titles in 1992, 1994, 1996 and 2000. Eash is fifth in all-time CCIW coaching wins and is second in victories at IWU, behind Don "Swede" Larson (166 wins in 33 years, 1954-86) . . . Jim Barnes, a 1981 Augustana grad and a former practicing attorney, has an 11-3 record in his second year at his alma mater. Barnes came to Augie after five years as head coach at the College of Wooster (Ohio), where his teams were 37-13. In 1997, the Scots were 9-1 and were 8-2 in 1998 and 1999. He was a three-year starter at defensive back and was team captain and all-CCIW in 1980.
THE SERIES: Illinois Wesleyan is the only team in the CCIW with a winning series edge on Augustana. The Titans lead 38-27-1 and have won five of the last six meetings, including a 20-16 verdict in Rock Island last year. Senior David Rasho made his first career catch a big one: a 71-yard TD reception with 3:01 remaining to give IWU the lead. . . The Vikings won 11 in a row vs. IWU from 1981-91.
CCIW STATS: In the latest CCIW statistics, IWU is third in total offense with 419.7 yards per game and ranks second in total defense, allowing 193.7 yards per game. Augustana ranks first in total offense (560.2) and rushing offense (499) and is third in defense, allowing 249 yards per game. . . Tim Snyder leads the CCIW with 76.3 receiving yards per game and Aaron Telford is fourth with 86.7 rushing yards per game. Kevin Kaplan leads the league with an average of 15.2 yards per punt return. . . In 2001 non-league games, CCIW teams were 15-8 vs. opponents.
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS: Augustana has won its first four games and has outscored opponents, 204-26. The Vikings have shutouts over UW-Platteville (23-0) and Elmhurst (62-0) and wins over Eureka (50-7) and Wisconsin Lutheran (69-19). In last week’s win over Elmhurst, the Vikings had 20 different ballcarriers and seven different people score touchdowns. David Chorney leads the CCIW with 140.8 yards rushing per game and Kyle Zick is seventh with 68.8 yards per game. Ninety percent of the Vikings’ attack has been by the rush this season, as they have 270 rushing attempts and only 35 pass attempts (18 completions for 245 yards). . . Defensively, Roy Fritz and Adam Guy each have 23 total tackles. Fritz has one interception and Guy has two as the Vikings have picked off eight enemy passes in four games.
CAREER PICKS: Brad Andrekus (Carol Stream, Glenbard North HS) has eight interceptions for his career. The all-time leaders are Jon Goldie and Kevin Fahey, who had 16 from 1995 to 1998. Fahey also holds the season record with nine (1998).
ABOUT WHITE, AKIN: Freshman wide receiver Eric White (Antioch HS) and junior quarterback Josh Akin (Naperville, Benet Academy) are non-lettermen and are not profiled in the 2001 IWU media guide. WHITE: Was an all-North Suburban Conference, all-county and all-area football player as a senior for the Sequoits. . . Also lettered four times in basketball . . .Majoring in business. AKIN: He threw for 800 yards and eight touchdowns as a high school senior for an East Suburban Catholic Conference champion team that made the state playoffs. . . Majoring in chemistry.
LOOKING AHEAD: IWU returns to the road next Saturday to face the Elmhurst Bluejays in a 1 p.m. game. It is Elmhurst’s Homecoming game.
