Four Share Season Honors for IWU Women's Soccer Team

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. ­ Four players have shared in the "Most Valuable" offensive and defensive player awards for the Illinois Wesleyan women’s soccer team.

Sophomores April App and Julie Brooks were co-winners of the top offensive honor while sophomore Jen Randa and senior Gayle Woodbury shared the defensive honor for the Titans, who tied a school record for victories in a season with a 12-6 mark.

App (Elburn, Kaneland HS) led IWU in scoring with 26 points, including 11 goals and four assists. A second team all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection, App had three multi-goal games, including scoring two vs. Benedictine and Millikin and three vs. Illinois College. With 31 career points, she is No. 8 in scoring in IWU history.

Brooks, a midfielder from Belleville (West HS) who was the Titans' offensive MVP as a freshman, scored eight goals and had four assists for 20 points this fall. A first team all-CCIW choice for the second straight season, Brooks is No. 3 in career scoring at IWU with 53 points coming on 24 goals with five assists.

Randa (Burr Ridge, Hinsdale South HS) was a key defender for a team that allowed only 22 goals in 18 games while Woodbury, a goalkeeper from Little Canada, Minn. (Roseville HS), posted a goals-against average of 1.2 with six shutouts and 88 saves in 18 games.

In her career, Woodbury recorded 20 shutouts in 59 games.

Junior outside midfielder Jill Denoma (Lake Villa, Carmel HS) was the winner of the team's "Outstanding Leadership Award." Denoma scored three goals and added three assists this season.

Other offensive weapons for IWU this season were sophomore L.J. Hachmeister (Elmhurst, York HS) and junior Liz Downes (Barrington, Carmel HS), who accounted for 19 and 15 points, respectively. Hachmeister moved up to No. 5 in career scoring at the school with 39 points on 13 goals with 13 assists.

Head coach Tony Bankston, whose six-year career record in women's soccer is 61-40-3, awarded letters to 17 players, with 16 slated to return next season. They are, with hometowns and high schools:
