IWU's Hasse Named Third Team Academic All-American3 June 2004 BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University junior Brynn Hasse has been elected to the third team of the College Division Academic All-Academic softball team. A centerfielder from Chillicothe, Ill. (IVC HS), Hasse is a psychology major with a grade-point average of 3.4 (on a 4.0 scale) and spent the fall 2003 semester in Australia on a study program. Hasse was a 2004 second team Division III All-American as she set a school record with her .475 batting mark. She was also a first team all-Great Lakes region honoree as well as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsins Player of the Year. A first team Division III All-American in 2003, Hasse was the Titans Most Valuable Player this spring as she led IWU in hits (58), runs (33), triples (4), total bases (72), stolen bases (16), slugging percentage (.590) and on-base percentage (.533). After three seasons, Hasse has 167 career hits, 15 short of eclipsing the school mark of 181, set by Jenny Schertz from 1994-97. Her 99 runs scored are also closing in on the record of 119 held by Jackie Kloiber (1997-00). Hasse has 15 career triples, behind the school mark of 21, and her .422 career average is the best of any IWU player with 200 or more at bats, easily topping the .386 mark of Jenny Miller (1992-95). Hasses selection brings to 99 the total number of Academic All-America berths earned by IWU student-athletes since the program began in 1970, a total eclipsed by only six other schools, including Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. To be considered for the Academic All-America squads, players must be of at least sophomore standing, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 (of 4.0), and be a starter or first-line reserve. The teams are chosen by a voting board representing the 1,800 members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). CONTACT: Stew Salowitz, 309-556-3206 |
