Roth Named IWU Men's Golf "MVP"

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Jeff Roth has been chosen "Most Valuable Player" for the 2000 version of the Illinois Wesleyan University men's golf team.
Roth, a junior from Morris (HS), averaged 85.3 strokes over nine rounds and had a season-low 74 in the IWU Invitational at Ironwood Golf Course. His two-day total of 150 was good for an eighth-place tie in that tournament. Roth was also IWU's low scorer in the Eureka Invitational.
Junior Ryan Fee (Naperville, North HS) was chosen as the team's "Most Improved Player." Fee, who played for IWU as a freshman but not as a sophomore, averaged 89.9 strokes in 11 rounds this spring and was the Titans' low scorer in the Millikin Intercollegiate tourney.
Illinois Wesleyan's low scorer for the second straight season was sophomore Clint Squier (Beecher HS), who averaged 82.8 in eight rounds. He was the Titans' low scorer in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin meet with a two-day total of 160, good for 16^th place.
First-year head coach Jim Ott, who has already landed two all-state recruits to improve his squad for next season, awarded letters to five players. They are, with hometowns and high schools:
JUNIORS - Ryan Fee, Naperville (North HS); Nick Janet, Glenview (Loyola Academy); Jeff Roth, Morris (HS).
SOPHOMORES - Clint Squier, Beecher (HS).
FRESHMEN - Charley Trovero, Peru (LaSalle-Peru HS).
