IWU’s Clift, Palmer Named to All-CCIW Squad
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Senior third baseman Jeff Clift and junior pitcher Adam Palmer were the Illinois Wesleyan representatives on the first team of the 2000 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin all-league squad, chosen in voting by CCIW coaches Tuesday.
Freshman righthanded pitcher Steve Brook and sophomore righthanded pitcher Ben Pasulka were named to the CCIW second team.
Palmer, a righthander from Naperville (North HS), was 4-2 with a 2.72 earned run average in conference play. In 46 2/3 innings he struck out 33 and walked 16.
Clift (Manville, Streator Woodland HS) batted a team-best .388 in 21 games of CCIW play. He also led the Titans with eight doubles, five home runs, and 19 runs batted in.
Brook (Chicago Heights, Homewood-Flossmoor HS) was 3-2 against the league with a 2.50 ERA. He struck out 29 and walked only 15 in 39 2/3 innings.
Pasulka (Chicago, Loyola Academy) had a 4-1 record in conference games. He fanned 27 and walked 17 in 36 1/3 innings and had a 2.72 earned run average.
The Titans were 14-7 in the CCIW and were 29-16-2 overall.
Carthage catcher Kevin Sullivan and Augustana pitcher John Benedetti shared the honor as the league's "Player of the Year" and Millikin's Jeff Holm was "Coach of the Year." Sullivan led the CCIW with a .518 batting mark and 29 runs batted in, had nine doubles and four home runs. Benedetti logged a 6-1 league record and a 2.39 earned run average. He fanned 64 in 49 innings.
