IWU's Stephen, Evitt All-Region in Softball;
Hieser, Kloiber Third TeamBLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Illinois Wesleyan freshman Stephanie Stephen and senior Christie Evitt were chosen to the first team of the all-Great Lakes Region softball squad, selected by members of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
IWU senior Jackie Kloiber and freshman Stephanie Hieser were among those chosen to the 15-person third team.
Stephen, a first baseman-outfielder from Martinsville (Casey-Westfield HS), was earlier named "Player of the Year" in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. She led IWU with a .423 batting average and had a school single-season record eight home runs. She also had nine doubles, four triples, and a team-best 39 runs batted in, third best in a season in school history. She also scored 40 runs.
Evitt, a catcher from Naperville (Oak Lawn Community HS), batted .312 with 13 doubles and 29 runs batted in. She is a four year all-CCIW player.
Kloiber, a shortstop from Tinley Park (HS), batted .306 with eight doubles, five triples, and 18 runs batted in. She had 20 stolen bases this year and ended her career with a school-record 54 steals.
Hieser, a utility player from Minier (Stanford Olympia HS), hit .312 with three doubles and six runs batted in.
The Titans, who won the league tournament in three games, won two games in the NCAA Division III regional tournament last weekend and finished with a 30-19 overall record. The Titans were 8-6 during the CCIW regular season.
