Illinois Wesleyan Expands Track and Field Staff

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Beginning with the 2002-03 academic year, Jason Williams will serve as the head track and field coach for the men's team at Illinois Wesleyan University, IWU athletic director Dennie Bridges announced today.

Chris Schumacher will remain as the school's head women's track coach as well as head coach for both men's and women's cross country.

Williams originally joined the IWU staff in 1999 as a football assistant and continues to coach the defensive line. In three years as a track assistant, Williams has coached national 2000 indoor shot put champion Jason Dennis, two athletes who have earned All-American status, and three national qualifiers.

Williams graduated with a history degree in 1997 from Montclair State University, where he was two-time all-New Jersey Athletic Conference selection in the throws and served as his team's captain. After graduation, Williams worked as an assistant football, track, and girls' basketball coach at Monroe High School in Jamesburg, N.J.

At Illinois Wesleyan, Williams is also the student-athlete academic counselor and CHAMPS/Life Skills Program (Challenging Athletes Minds for Personal Success) coordinator.
