Morton Finishes 47th in Division III Golf Tourney

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan senior Stephanie Morton (Elgin, Larkin HS) Illinois Wesleyan senior Stephanie Morton finished with a four-round total of 354 (+62) and finished in 47th place at the 2004 NCAA Division III women's golf championships, held May 11-14 at The Golf Courses of Lawsonia in Green Lake, Wis.

Playing as one of 10 individuals in the tournament, Morton shot a 90 (+17) on the final day, carding a birdie, five pars, six bogeys and six double bogeys on the par-73, 5,846-yard course. Her earlier rounds were 80, 92 and 92. The first-day 80, when she had 13 pars, three bogeys, and two double bogeys (both on par 5 holes), left her tied for eighth place in the tourney.

The tournament medalist was Brittany Cary of McMurry U. (Texas), who had a four-day total of 314 (+22). Methodist (N.C.) won its seventh straight Division III women’s golf title with a total of 1303, ahead of Mary Hardin-Baylor (1305) and DePauw (1315).

Morton, who was the 2003 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament medalist, played in the Division III championships in 2002 as a member of the IWU team and shot a 371 total over the four rounds at The Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Mass. Her average for 18 rounds in 2003-04 is 83.1 and she shot her low score of 74 on two occasions, including the final round of the CCIW championship.
