Hasse Earns 1st Team Academic All-Region Honors13 May 2004 BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University junior Brynn Hasse has been elected to the first team of the District Five College Division all-academic softball squad and will join representatives of seven other districts on the Academic All-America national ballot. Hasse, a centerfielder from Chillicothe, Ill. (IVC HS), is a psychology major with a 3.40 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) and spent the fall 2003 semester in Australia on a study program. This spring Hasse set a school record with her .475 batting average and was first team all-Great Lakes region as well as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsins Player of the Year. She led IWU with 58 hits, 33 runs, four triples and 16 stolen bases. She also had team-highs in on-base percentage (.533) and slugging percentage (.590). IWU senior second baseman Jamie Palmer (Knoxville, Ill. HS) was selected to the academic all-district second team, but only first team members advance to the Academic All-America national ballot. Palmer, also first team all-Great Lakes region, batted .347 with team-highs of 15 doubles and 26 runs batted in. She is a mathematics major with a 3.53 grade-point average. The all-district teams were chosen by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario. To be considered for the CoSIDA Academic All-America squads, players must be of at least sophomore standing, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 (of 4.0), and be a starter or first-line reserve.
