Three Announce for IWU Women's Basketball

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Three standout women basketball players have elected to attend Illinois Wesleyan to continue their academic and athletic careers, IWU women's basketball coach Mia Smith announced today.
The players are Allison Humbert of Lincoln (HS), Hannah Meharry of Tolono (Unity HS), and Alesia Perry of Yorkville (HS).

Allison Humbert

Humbert, a 6-foot front line player, earned honorable mention all-state as a senior when she averaged 8.0 points and 7.5 rebounds. She was also named to the Central State Eight all-conference team, the first team of the Lincoln Courier all-area squad, and the second team all-area squad selected by The Pantagraph.
"Allison is going to give us added depth in the post position," Smith said. "She is quick and capable of playing the point on our diamond press. She comes from a highly successful Lincoln team that advanced to the state tournament her sophomore season."
A four-year letterwinner, Humbert was her team's "Most Valuable Player" as a senior and also won the team's defensive award.
"Allison is a relentless rebounder," said her high school coach Ed Moore. "She has good instincts for the basketball and is always working to improve."
Humbert, who ranks in the top 15 percent of her high school class, is the daughter of Mark and Karen Humbert, 106 Keokuk, Lincoln.

Hannah Meharry

A 5-foot-6 point guard, Meharry was chosen to the third team of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association all-state squad as a sophomore and as a senior, and earned honorable mention all-state as a junior. As a senior, she averaged 12.5 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game and she scored 1,120 points in her career.
"We're very excited about Hannah attending IWU," Smith said. "She brings great scoring potential to our team. She is a gutsy player with a great mind for the game. Her quickness will add depth to our defense and I believe she was one of the best Class A point guards this season."
Her team's "Most Valuable Player" for three seasons, she was also her team's "Most Dedicated" for two years and two-time team captain. She was a first team all-Illini Central Conference selection for three years, was named to the Champaign News-Gazette all-area teams three times, and was selected to play in the IBCA all-star game this summer.
Meharry, who ranks No. 1 in her high school class, plans to major in mathematics education at IWU. An Illinois State scholar and honorable mention all-state academic team member, she is the daughter of Mark and Carol Meharry, 1385 County Rd. 900 N, Tolono.

Alesia Perry

Perry, a 6-foot post player, was chosen to the third team of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association all-state squad as a senior, when she averaged 12.6 points and 7.4 rebounds with 25 blocked shots. In her career, she scored 1,010 points.
"Alesia is a very versatile athlete who can score in the post or step out and shoot the 3-point shot," Smith said. "She has good strength and defensive skills as well."
Perry was named to the first team of the Aurora Beacon News all-area squad as a senior after being on the second team as a junior and earning special mention as a sophomore. Her team's "Most Valuable Player" as a senior, she was also the unanimous "Most Valuable Player" in the Suburban Prairie Conference White Division.
An all-area and all-conference softball player, Perry was also her softball team's MVP as a junior and has indicated she will also participate in that sport at IWU.
Perry, who ranks No. 3 in her high school class, plans to major in biology at IWU. An Illinois State scholar and IHSA all-state academic team member, she is the daughter of Mark and Lauri Perry, 804 Teri Lane, Yorkville.
