Titans’ Palmer Wins CCIW Weekly Baseball Honor

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Illinois Wesleyan junior Adam Palmer has been "Player of the Week" for baseball in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

Palmer, a right-handed pitcher from Naperville (North HS), tossed a complete game, nine-inning shutout in the Titans’ 1-0 victory over Carthage last Saturday (April 29). It was the first time in 87 games the Redmen had been shutout, going back to May 8, 1998, and snapped a 16-game win streak for the NCAA Division III No. 1 ranked team.

Palmer, who now has an 8-1 record for the 26-11-2 Titans, has three shutouts this year (against Hendrix, Wabash, and Carthage), which is a new IWU single season record. He also blanked North Central in 1999. The school's career record for shutouts at IWU is five, held by Ed Moore (1975-78).

Palmer’s eight victories is second most in an IWU season, behind Nathan Knuffman's 11 wins in 1998, and Palmer's career record of 15-10 is good for No. 8 in career wins at the school.

He has 55 strikeouts this year and 146 in his career, which is already No. 6 at IWU, and has a 1.10 earned run average in 65 2/3 innings.

The Titans, who are 14-4 in the CCIW, host Monmouth in a 5 p.m. game May 2, and entertain regionally-ranked Aurora at 6 p.m. Wednesday (May 3). IWU plays a single game at Augustana on Friday and hosts Augustana in a Saturday doubleheader which begins at 1 p.m. at Horenberger Field.
