U High's Seth Hubbard Decides on Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Seth Hubbard, the leading scorer in U High's boys basketball history, has decided to follow in his brother's footsteps and attend Illinois Wesleyan University, IWU head coach Dennie Bridges announced today.

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound Hubbard, the son of U High coach Cal Hubbard and brother of Nathan, IWU's "Most Valuable Player" last winter, averaged 16.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game as a senior and was chosen to the first team of the Chicago Sun-Times Class A all-state squad. Seth was also named to the third team of the all-state squads chosen by the Associated Press and by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.

"Seth is really a smart player who knows how to use his abilities and is a fierce competitor," said Bridges. "He is creative in getting his shot, has good touch and runs the court a whole lot better than many think."

Hubbard, a four-year letterman and three-year starter for the Pioneers, amassed career averages of 11.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game while playing on teams that had a combined four-year record of 105-23. During his high school career, Seth played on teams that finished third in the state in 1997 and advanced to the Class A quarterfinals two other times.

He was twice named his team's "Most Valuable Player", was a first team Corn Belt Conference selection three times and two-time league "MVP", and was twice named to The Pantagraph Class A all-area team. He was also the WHOI-TV "Player of the Year" as a senior.

"In the recent past, U High players have had outstanding basketball careers at Illinois Wesleyan," Bridges pointed out. "John Lipic, Brady Knight, John Baines, and Nathan [Hubbard] all have been better college players than many thought they would be, and all won (College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) championships."

Nathan Hubbard, a 6-foot-4 guard, was a two-time second team all-CCIW selection and finished his IWU career with 870 points, at No. 33 in career rebounds (388), sixth in assists (335), and seventh in 3-point field goals (109).
