18 Seniors Enter IWU Athletic Honorary

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Eighteen Illinois Wesleyan University athletes were inducted into the Order of Titans honorary for seniors during the University's annual Honors Day Ceremony in Westbrook Auditorium.

The women inductees are Jacqui Bliss (Towanda, Ridgeview HS), basketball, volleyball, and track; Maggie Lamb (Geneseo, J.D. Darnall HS) and Sara Seebruch (Tinley Park, Andrew HS), basketball; Erin Gallagher (Springfield, Southeast HS), soccer; Jennifer Hayes (Joliet, West HS), Sara Kummer (Normal, U High) and Amy Pollitz (Wheaton, North HS), all softball; Rebecca Clark (Galesburg, Charleston HS), track; and LeAnn Genzel (Buckley, Paxton-Buckley-Loda HS), volleyball.

The men are Chad Beaty (Pana, DeKalb HS), football and baseball; Adam Hanes (Maroa, Maroa-Forsyth HS) and Cody Smith (Bloomington, Normal Community HS), baseball; Andrew Boyden (Galesburg HS), basketball; Mark Kevan (Austin, Colo., Delta HS), cross country and track; Kevin Fahey (Oak Forest, Sandburg HS), Jon Goldie (St. Charles HS), and David Nuckolls (Matteson, Rich Central HS), all football; and Karle Koritz (Clinton HS), track.

Members of the coaching and physical education staff selected the new members on the basis of academic accomplishments, athletic contributions, and general citizenship. Order of Titans members receive lifetime passes to IWU home athletic events.

The athletes represent 12 fields of study at Illinois Wesleyan. Beaty, Goldie and Kummer are all business majors, while Boyden, Gallagher and Lamb are biology majors. Hayes and Clark have majored in sociology and Fahey and Genzel are accounting majors.

Bliss is a health major and Nuckolls has majored in criminology. Smith is a political science major, Koritz is a history major, and Kevan has majored in Russian. Hanes is a psychology major, Pollitz is an elementary education major, and Seebruch is a math and secondary education major.

Chad Beaty, football and baseball, Pana (DeKalb HS), business — Honorable mention All-American, USA Football squad…Earned four football letters and four more in baseball...Named to second team all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin football squad as a junior and senior...Threw for 2,440 yards putting him in third place in IWU single season passing records...Completed 279 passes in his career placing him in seventh place in IWU history...His 355 passing yards vs. Wheaton places him eighth best for a single game, and his 324 passing yards against Augustana makes him 13th best for a single game ...His career passing yards total of 4197 places him sixth on the all time list, and his season passing yards total of 2440 places him at third highest on the all time list... He is the all time leader for pass completions with 33 this season against Wheaton, and he is seventh on the all time list for career completions with 279 ...He is the all time leader in pass attempts for a single game with 64...He ranks sixth all time in career passing touchdowns with 47...Also second team all-CCIW in baseball as a designated hitter as a freshman…He is the son of Nancy and Larry Beaty.

Jacqui Bliss, basketball, volleyball, track, Towanda (Ridgeview HS), health — Earned three volleyball letters, four in track, and two in basketball…Was named the co-winner of the 1998 volleyball team’s "Most Valuable Player" honor...Chosen to the first team of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin all-star squad...Was team’s "Most Improved Player" as a junior and sophomore... CCIW "Player of the Week" once in 1998...Led 1998 Titans in blocks and hitting percentage...She finished her career sixth in blocks (341) and 10th in kills (907) in school history...Named to CCIW all-tournament team in 1998...As a basketball player, she finished career ranked 34th in rebounds …Holds six indoor and outdoor track records…Placed 11th in Division III indoor meet in 800 and was CCIW champion…She is the daughter of Thurman and Peggy Bliss.

Andrew Boyden, basketball, Galesburg (HS), biology — Earned four basketball letters and served as co-captain for 1998-99 team after being captain for 1997-98 team...Named to second team of all- College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squad in 1999 after being third team as a junior…Finished his career second all-time with a 58.4 field goal percentage (472 of 808) and 12th in free throw accuracy at 71.7 percent (251 of 350)…He finished 25th in both scoring (1,196 points) and rebounding (450) at the school, 19th in field goals made (472), and 18th in free throws (251)...He is the son of Scott and Carla Boyden.

Rebekah Clark, track, Galesburg (Charleston HS), sociology — Holder of school's indoor 400 meter school record at 1:00.77, set in 1998…Also part of school-record indoor 1600 meter relay team…On outdoor track school record relay teams at 400 and 1600 distances…Was named team's "Most Valuable Freshman" in 1996 and team's "Hardest Worker" honor as a junior…She is the daughter of Terry and Janice Clark.

Kevin Fahey, football, Oak Forest (Sandburg HS), accounting — First team All-American on Hewlett-Packard Division III team and Football Gazette squad…Third team All-American, USA Football team…Earned three football letters and was chosen as the 1998 team’s "Most Valuable Player" on defense...Named to first team of all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squad as a junior and senior...First team, Football Gazette All-North Region team in 1998...Holds IWU record for interceptions in a season with nine...His nine interceptions was also second in Division III...Shares career interception of record of 16...He is the son of Mary Jean Fahey.

Erin Gallagher, soccer, Springfield (Southeast HS), biology — Earned fourth letters in soccer and was named the team’s "Most Valuable Defensive Player" for three consecutive seasons...Also a three-time College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin first team selection...Served as captain for the 1998 team...She is the daughter of Thomas and Kathryn Gallagher.

LeAnn Genzel, volleyball, Buckley (Paxton-Buckley-Loda HS), public accounting — Earned four volleyball letters and was named the co-winner of the 1998 team’s "Most Valuable Player" honor...Was named to the first team of the 1998 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin all-star squad after being on the second team as a junior and third team as a sophomore...Was named to the all-Midwest region squad for the second straight year...Ended her career as IWU’s all-time leader in blocks (589) and service aces (234) and ranks seventh in kills (1,169) and fifth in digs (1,028)...Was named to the first team of the 1998 GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America team and earned the CCIW Academic All-Conference Award for the third year in a row...he is the daughter of Lee and Martha Genzel of rural Buckley.

Jon Goldie, football, St. Charles (HS), business — Earned four football letters...Named to first team of 1998 and 1997 all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squads and was honorable mention in 1995...Shares career interception of record of 16…Team's "Most Valuable Freshman" in 1995…He is the son of Una and Hugh Goldie.

Adam Hanes, baseball, Maroa (Maroa-Forsyth HS), psychology — Has earned three letters…Named to first team of 1999 All-American Farm Team by Successful Farming magazine…As of 24 games into senior season, Hanes ranked No. 4 all-time in games played (146), third in at bats (506) runs scored (140) and doubles (36), tied for second in hits (183) among IWU career record-holders…Also ninth all-time with 100 runs batted in and sixth with 21 home runs…His career .362 batting average ranks ninth in school history…He is the son of Richard and Cindy Hanes.

Jennifer Hayes, softball, Joliet (West HS), sociology — Has earned three softball letters…Team's "Most Improved Player" as a junior…After 28 games this spring, she ranks fourth in both appearances (57) and strikeouts (116) in IWU history…Also ranks sixth in both innings pitched (250.7) and in pitching victories (27-13)…Named to all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squad as a junior…Once CCIW "Player of Week" honoree this spring after perfect game vs. Wisconsin-LaCrosse…All-Great Lakes region team, 1998…She is the daughter of Whitey and Joanne Hayes.

Mark Kevan, cross country and track, Austin, Colo. (Delta HS), Russian — Named "Most Valuable Performer" for 1999 cross country team as he was IWU’s top runner in three of the team’s nine meets and had the squad’s best time of 26 minutes, 12 seconds in his 57th place finish at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional…Kevan had a first place finish with a time of 21:52 at the North Park Invitational, run over a four-mile course…In 1999 outdoor track he currently has IWU's best times in 1500 meters and 3000 steeplechase…In the 1999 indoor track season he set school records in 3000 and 5000 meter runs…He is the son of Sam and Lana Kevan.

Karle Koritz, track, Clinton (HS), history — Indoor track NCAA Division III All-American in 1999 as he placed fourth in 55 hurdles (7.55 seconds)…Currently has outdoor track team's best times in 110 high hurdles and 400 intermediate hurdles and best performance in long jump…Part of two indoor school record relay teams in 800 and 1600 distances…He is the son of Dick and Ivy Koritz.

Sara Kummer, softball, Normal (U High), business — Has earned three softball letters…Through 28 games in her senior season, Kummer ranks second all-time at IWU in doubles with 30; third in runs batted in (99) and home runs (nine); fourth in hits (148), triples (13) and games played (154); and sixth in runs scored (93)…Her career .326 batting average is 14th best in school history…All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin as a sophomore…Has served as team co-captain…She is the daughter of Tami and Paul Clark, and Tom Kummer.

Maggie Lamb, basketball, Geneseo (J.D. Darnall HS), biology — Earned four basketball letters...Named to second team all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squad as a junior and senior…Finished her career ranked ninth in scoring (1013), 10th in field goals made (322), fourth in free throws made (266), third in 3-point field goals made (103), and fifth in assists (276)...In single season records in 1998-99, she was 13th in scoring (354), fifth in free throws (86), and third in 3-point field goals (44)…Named to District V All-Academic team…She is the daughter of Charles and Beverly Lamb.

David Nuckolls, football, Matteson (Rich Central HS), criminology — Earned four football letters…Named to second team all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squad as a junior...He is the son of Claudia and David Nuckolls.

Amy Pollitz, softball, Wheaton (North HS), elementary education — Has earned three letters in softball and three more in basketball…Named co-winner of softball team's "Most Valuable Player" honor in 1997 and was team's "Most Improved" as a freshman…Three-time all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection in softball…Served as IWU co-captain…Also a two-time all-region choice…Through 28 games of her senior season, she ranks second all-time at IWU in runs batted in (103); third in hits (157); fifth with 153 games played; sixth in doubles (19); seventh in both triples (10) and with a .347 career batting average; and eighth in runs scored (80)…CCIW All-Academic selection in 1998 spring sports…She is the daughter of Steve and Barb Simon.

Sara Seebruch, basketball, Tinley Park (Andrew HS), mathematics and secondary education — Earned four basketball letters…First team all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin as a senior after being second team as a junior and third team as a sophomore…Named "Most Valuable Player" for 1999 team as she led IWU in scoring and rebounding...Team's co-captain as a junior and senior…Finished her career fourth all-time in scoring (1,288), fourth in field goals (557), eighth in free throws (171), and seventh in rebounds (611)…Had single-game high of 39 points (vs. North Central)…Holds single season record for field goal percentage with .548 mark in 1999…Named to District V All-Academic team and CCIW All-Academic team in 1999…She is the daughter of Dave and Judy Seebruch.

Cody Smith, baseball, Bloomington (Normal Community HS), political science — Third team Academic All-American in 1997…Ranks in top five in IWU career games played and in top 15 with 122 hits through 28 games this spring…Has .307 career batting average…He is the son of Kim and Becky Smith.
