IWU's Gilfillan Named CCIW "Player of Week"

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Illinois Wesleyan's Ryan Gilfillan has been named "Player of the Week" for baseball in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
Gilfillan, a junior second baseman from Peoria (Notre Dame HS), went five-for-five vs. North Park in a 12-1 win on Sunday (April 14) to become the first Titan to collect five hits in one game since George Stiglish did it vs. Rockford in March 1997.
In tying the school record for hits in a game, Gilfillan had a home run, a double, and three singles, scored three runs and drove home four as IWU swept the Vikings in a three-game weekend series in Chicago. In that series alone Gilfillan was 10-for-13 (.769).
In six games last week Gilfillan raised his batting average from .284 to a team-high .368 as he went 13-for-20 (.650) with nine runs scored, 10 runs batted in, three doubles, and two homers.
Gilfillan leads the team with four home runs and eight doubles and has 41 career doubles, which places him second all-time at IWU, behind Jay Ahrendt, who had 49 doubles from 1993-96.
Gilfillan shared the weekly conference award with pitcher Brian Nendza of North Central, who was 3-0 last week, including a win over IWU.
