Pekin and ICC Standout Amy Gregory to Attend Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Amy Gregory, who has been a standout volleyball player at both Pekin High School and Illinois Central College, has decided to transfer to Illinois Wesleyan University to further her academic and athletic careers, IWU volleyball coach Kim Nelson-Brown announced today.

Gregory. a 6-foot right-side hitter, earned four letters in both volleyball and basketball and three more in softball at Pekin High School. She was a second team all-Mid-State Six Conference selection in both volleyball and basketball and was an academic all-conference selection as well as an Illinois High School Association scholastic achievement honoree for three seasons in both sports.

"Amy is a very strong and smart athlete who will be of immediate help to us," Nelson-Brown said. "She has also been a winner at every level she has played at, which is an attitude we like here at Illinois Wesleyan."

No stranger to winning teams, Gregory played on the 1997 Illinois Central College volleyball squad that was 53-8 and finished ninth in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I tournament and was also on the 1998 team that was 36-20 and fell in the regional finals.

Gregory has indicated she will also play basketball at IWU. She was a member of the ICC women's basketball teams that won two straight NJCAA Division II national championships, including this year with a 33-2 record.

Gregory plans to major in English and philosophy at IWU.

The Titans return six letterwinners next fall from a team that finished 21-17 in 1998 and advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament for the second consecutive season and the third time in school history. Bloomington High School's 5-foot-8 setter Tiffany Hamblin and Olympia High School's 5-foot-10 left-side hitter Kara Swigart have both already committed to attend IWU next fall.
