Kathy Carroll Honorable Mention All-America
In National Women's Swim Meet

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Illinois Wesleyan sophomore Kathy Carroll was an honorable mention All-American in three events in last weekend's NCAA Division III women's swimming and diving championships, held on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.

Carroll (Orland Park, Sandburg HS) finished 11th in the 1,650-yard freestyle on Saturday with a time of 17:38.92. Included in her 1,650 effort was a school-record 1,000-yard split of 10:40.21.

Carroll finished 13th in the 400 individual medley on Friday with a time of 4:39.03 and was 12th in the 500 freestyle on Thursday with a mark of 5:06.69. In the 400 individual medley Carroll broke her school record with a time of 4:38.06 in preliminaries.

Persons finishing in the top eight (unless disqualified) at swimming/diving nationals earn All-America honors. Places nine through 16 receive Honorable Mention All-America.

"Kathy's goal was to place in the top 16 in each event so we're pretty happy," said IWU coach Teresa Zurick. "She was happy she got to break her school record in the 400 IM."

In last year's national championships, Carroll finished 14th in the 400 individual medley, was 16th in the 500 freestyle, and placed 19th in the 1650 free.
