IWU's Carroll Swims in Division III National Meet

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Illinois Wesleyan junior Kathy Carroll will compete in three events in this weekend's NCAA Division III women's swimming and diving championships, to be held tomorrow through Saturday at Flickinger Aquatic Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

Carroll (Orland Park, Sandburg HS) has qualified for the 500 and 1650 freestyle and the 400 individual medley, the three events in which she set IWU records this season and in which she was an honorable mention All-American in the 2000 national meet.

Carroll's times of 4:36.58 in the 400 individual medley, 5:05.34 in the 500 free, and 17:35.09 in the 1650 free were all established at the 2001 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin meet, where she was named the "Most Oustanding Performer" for the second straight season.

In the 2000 national meet, Carroll finished 11th in the 1650 freestyle, was 13th in the 400 individual medley and was 12th in the 500 freestyle.

Persons finishing in the top eight (unless disqualified) at swimming/diving nationals earn All-America honors. Places nine through 16 receive Honorable Mention All-America.

As a freshman in the 1999 national championships, Carroll finished 14th in the 400 individual medley, was 16th in the 500 freestyle, and placed 19th in the 1650 free.
