5 March 2001IWU Announces Ticket Situation for Sectional in Chicago
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The demand for a limited number of tickets for the Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball game Friday vs. Elmhurst has led the school to adopt a lottery drawing for students only.
The IWU allotment is 276 tickets for the sectional game, the same as both Elmhurst and Lewis & Clark (Ore.) will receive. The host school, University of Chicago, gets 828 tickets, or one-half of the total seating of 1,656 at Henry Crown Field House.
IWU plays Elmhurst at 6 p.m. and Chicago and Lewis & Clark meet at 8 on Friday. The winners will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
"Unfortunately, there will be no public sale of tickets for the Friday game vs. Elmhurst," said IWU athletic director and head coach Dennie Bridges. "Team members and their families and athletic department personnel will take a significant portion and the fans who have ridden our fan bus to every road game will be sold tickets."
Bridges said remaining tickets will be sold to Illinois Wesleyan students on a lottery basis, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Students are being asked to go to the Shirk Center at 11 a.m. Wednesday to fill out a card, which will be placed in the 11:30 lottery drawing.
"The number of tickets we have available for the lottery could be anywhere from 70 to 130, depending on Lewis & Clark returning some they don't pre-sell," Bridges said.
Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $4 for students.
Should IWU win Friday, tickets for the Saturday sectional final will be sold immediately following the game in Chicago to those who are already there and will be sold, with a limit of four per person, on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Shirk Center.
"We'll have at least 838 tickets for Saturday night's game and, if Lewis & Clark beats Chicago, could have many more."
