IWU's Amelianovich Named Second Team
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American®
2 March 2005
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. Illinois Wesleyan University junior Keelan Amelianovich has been elected to the second team of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® squad for mens college basketball.
Amelianovich, a 6-foot-6 forward from Naperville, Ill. (Neuqua Valley HS), is an accounting major with a 3.76 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale). He is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma scholastic honoraries.
For the 21-4 Titans this season, Amelianovich is averaging a team-high 17.7 points and has connected on 63 3-point field goals. In his career he is No. 4 all-time at IWU with 141 3-pointers and is tied for No. 37 in career scoring at the school with 971 points.
This is a tremendous honor for Keelan, said IWU head coach Scott Trost. He places a great emphasis on his academic work and is able to balance that schedule along with the demands of the basketball season.
Amelianovich was elected to the first team of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin all-star squads this season for the conference champions and, in 2004, was the CCIW Player of the Year and a first team All-American when he set a school record with 82 3-point field goals and led the Titans to the final 16 in the NCAA tournament.
His selection brings to 101 the total number of Academic All-America berths earned by IWU student-athletes since the program began in 1970, a total eclipsed by only six other schools, including Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. To be considered for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® squads, players must be of at least sophomore standing, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 (of 4.0), and be a starter or first-line reserve. The teams are chosen by a voting board representing the 1,800 members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
