Mila Named IWU Men's Soccer "MVP"

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. ? Sophomore Alan Mila has been chosen as the "Most Valuable Player" for the 2002 Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team.

Mila (Bartlett, Wheaton Academy), a two-time all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection, led a defense that allowed 2.4 goals per game.

The Titans finished with a 6-12 overall record and were 1-5 in the CCIW.

Mila was also chosen to serve as a co-captain for next year’s team, along with junior midfielder/ forward Mike Rampey (Bloomington HS)

Rampey scored two goals and added three assists for seven points.

Senior defender Mike Guenther (Belleville, Mascoutah HS), a three-time letterman, was picked as the team’s “Most Improved Player.”

Head coach Dave Barrett got significant offensive contributions from freshmen Deric Armstrong (Chatham Glenwood HS) and Patrick Collins (Fenwick HS) who were among the team leaders in points. Armstrong had five goals with two assists for 12 points and Collins scored four goals with one assist.

Junior David Munz (Mt. Prospect, Prospect HS) also had 12 points on six goals.

Sophomores Matt Robertson (Arlington Heights, Hersey HS) and Jeremy Witt (Waukegan, Warren Township HS) shared the goalkeeping duties, each playing 11 games. Robertson had a 2.47 goals-against average with one shutout while Witt had a 2.26 goals-against average and three shutouts.

Barrett awarded letters to 24 IWU soccer players, including 20 who will return for next fall. The lettermen are, with hometowns and high schools:
