IWU Gets Nine All-Conference Soccer Players
Barrett Wins Coaching Honor

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Seven Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer players and two men's soccer players were chosen to the 2003 all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squads in voting by league coaches Tuesday in Naperville.

For the women, senior midfielder Ann Bernard, senior defender Lauren Boegen and sophomore forward Katie Kelly were chosen to the first team. Junior midfielder Marisa Johnson, sophomore defender Jenny LaBrenz, sophomore forward Mary Karson and freshman midfielder Lyndsay O'Brien were named to the second team.

For the men, junior defenseman Alan Mila was a first team selection for the third straight year and freshman midfielder Chris Miller was selected to the second team.

Third-year coach Dave Barrett was chosen as the women's soccer "Coach of the Year" for the second straight season as he led the Titans to a 6-1 first place league finish in the CCIW's regular season phase. The women were 12-3-4 overall.


Women's Soccer

Bernard (St. Charles HS), who has been a first team all-CCIW selection for four straight seasons, had one goal and three assists against CCIW opponents this fall.

Boegen (Waukegan, Warren HS), a second team all-CCIW player a year ago, was a solid defensive player on a team that allowed only one goal in seven conference games.

Kelly, a forward from Wheaton (Wheaton Warrenville South HS), was second in the CCIW in scoring with 21 points and second with 10 goals. A first team selection in 2002, she was the CCIW "Player of the Week" three times this fall.

Johnson (Wayne, St. Charles East HS), a first team all-CCIW player in 2002, had three goals and four assists and was sixth in the CCIW with 10 points.

Karson, a midfielder from St. Charles (HS), scored four goals with two assists and was sixth in the CCIW with 10 points. She was the league's "Player of the Week" once this fall.

LaBrenz (Kalamazoo, Mich., Central HS) was defender on a team that allowed one goal in seven conference games (0.14).

O'Brien (Peoria, Notre DameHS) scored two goals with five assists and was eighth in the CCIW with nine points.


Men's Soccer
Mila (Bartlett, Wheaton Academy), who was also chosen to the all-CCIW team as a sophomore and freshman, was a defensive player on a team that allowed 2.33 goals per game against CCIW opposition and had shutouts vs. Carthage and North Central.

Miller (Normal, U High) had two goals and an assist for five points in his first college season.
