Titan Women's Swim Team Combines Academic, Athletic Performance The Illinois Wesleyan womens swim team is No. 2 in the NCAA's Division III when ranked according to swimming performance and team grade point average, according to the September issue of Swimming World Magazine in association with the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. The combined ranking was done by adding the team's final ranking at the NCAA Division III championships and its overall grade-point average during the most recent semester. The Titan womens team finished 27th out of 63 teams in the 2002 national meet and ranked at the top of all Division III schools in grade-point average with a combined 3.59 average (on 4.0 scale). That team GPA was tied for second in the nation among all swim teams, men's and women's, in all divisions. Emory had the top-ranked Division III womens team and mens team, according to the Swimming World ranking. Kenyon, Wooster and Ithaca were third through fifth, behind IWU, in the womens ratings. Four members of the Illinois Wesleyan women's team were named to the College Swimming Coaches of America Academic All-American team for Division III. They are Kathryn Carroll, Erin Bicek, Molly Hornbaker, and Katie Wenzel. A fifth swimmer, Lisa Diersen, was honorable mention. The Illinois Wesleyan men's team was 12th among Division III teams in its team GPA at 3.22. |
