Civic Orchestra Presents Second Concert of the Season

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Illinois Wesleyan University Civic Orchestra, under the direction of Steven W. Eggleston, will present its second concert of the season on Friday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at The Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts.

The program will feature pianist R. Kent Cook and the premiere of a piece composed for the Civic Orchestra by Michael Schelle.

Cook, associate professor of piano at Illinois Wesleyan, will perform Rachmaninoff's "Piano Concerto No. 2."

Schelle's piece is entitled "Crash Out." Currently composer-in-residence at the Jordan College of Fine Arts at Butler University, Schelle has received composition grants and commission from the national Endowment for the Arts, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the International Percussive Arts Society, among many others. His work has been performed nationally and internationally by major orchestras.

The program will also include works by Bedrich Smetana and Anton Dvorak.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens, and $1 for Illinois Wesleyan and Illinois State students with a valid ID.
