Event: University Chapel Hour and Special Events and Services presents: A Service in the Observance of Ramadan

Date: Oct. 13 (Wednesday)

Time: 11:00 a.m.

Location: Evelyn Chapel
1301 N. Park St., Bloomington

Admission: Free and open to the public

Background: Cosponsored by Illinois Wesleyan’s Muslim Student Association, the Ramadan observance will be led by Munib Abdulrehman, class of 2003.

Ramadan is the Muslim month of fasting in which followers dedicate daylight hours to worship and prayer while abstaining from food or drink. The fast is broken in the evening with a meal of dates and sweet drinks called iftar which is eaten with family and friends. Ramadan begins during the 9th month of the Muslim calendar and ends on the first day of the month of Shawwal during which the family prays together, exchanges gifts, and feasts.
