Background:
Thirty-seven percent of American children and adolescents are carrying too much fat and two out of every three adults are overweight or obese, as filmmaker Morgan Spurlock discovered. Realizing something was very wrong with America’s eating habits, Spurlock decided to find out if it was just America’s fault for lacking self-control or the fault of the fast-food industry for pressuring and enticing people.

Sundance Film Festival 2004 Winner of Best Director for this film, Spurlock interviewed experts in 20 United States cities, from surgeon generals to cooks, lawmakers to children. He also did research with his own body, eating nothing but McDonald’s for an entire month. Although his doctor and his girlfriend were none too happy about this, as Spurlock says, “it’s an examination of the American way of life.”
