Background: Illinois Wesleyan will kick off its 13th year of the Blue Moon Coffeehouse (acoustic music concerts) with the return visit of singer-songwriter Christine Lavin.
According to Darcy Greder, associate dean of student affairs/co-curricular programming, Its always a wild night when singer-songwriter and guitarist Christine Lavin comes to play the Blue Moon Coffeehouse at Illinois Wesleyan. This years visit will certainly live up to expectations for great music and lots of fun.
To date, Lavin has recorded and released 16 solo albums of original material, sung her own and others songs on three disks of the Four Bitchin Babes (a group she founded, nurtured and performed in during the 90s) and has put together and produced eight compilations showcasing the works of dozens of singers-songwriters. Appleseed Records released her latest CD, Sometimes Mother Really Does Know Best, in May 2004, and Lavin is currently on tour to promote the CD.
Lavin is also a guest artist on the new album by Noel Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul & Mary). She appears on the track, Lets Go To The Stars. She has won one National Association of Independent Record Distributors and Manufacturers (NAIRD) award, two New York Music Awards, and five American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) awards.
In 2001, Backstage Magazine named Lavin Outstanding New York Singer/Songwriter of the Year. In 2004, Rounder Records is reissuing an updated version of the first compilation of Lavins works, "On A Winters Night," a collection that now will also include, along with the original 15 songwriters, Judy Collins, Dave Van Ronk, Annie Bauerlein and Chip Mergott, Lynn Miles, Kenny White, and Cliff Eberhardt.
