Sodexho News Scoop (volume 76.edition 4 May 23rd through May 30th, 2008)

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all new students and welcome back to all our returning students. Sodexho Campus Services is the Food Service Contractor for Illinois Wesleyan University. We are in charge of managing your dining facilities. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Fall Semester of the 2007 / 2008 school year and speak a little about the areas of operation for this upcoming year.

Sodexho has a meal plan added for those students on the go. We have provided a plan that gives you a meal exchange from the Residential Dinning Hall to the Dugout in the Memorial Student Center and Tommy’s in the Hansen Center. The hours will run from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm for lunch and 4:30pm to 9:00 pm for dinner Monday through Friday in the Dugout and 1:00 to 4:30 for lunch and 4:30 to 8:00 for dinner Monday through Friday at Tommy’s. If your schedule does not permit you to eat in the Commons, you have the option and buying power to purchase up to $4.70 of limited items in the Dugout & Tommy’s in exchange for one meal. The meal exchange will begin on Monday, August 27th.

The Commons, or the Market Place

Center of the Plate. This area serves more of what is considered traditional food items. During lunch, sandwich type items are served and during dinner items like roast beef, turkey, chicken, etc.; accompanied with a starch and a vegetable. At each station we will feature a vegetarian entrée.

Etc.– Etc. This station offers omelets and eggs to order at Sunday Brunch and transfers into our Fire & Ice / Just in Time cooking station for lunch and dinner. It also will feature our Culinary Journey (Going global; cooking local) where we will present food and festivals from different cities located throughout the world as well as featuring some weekly specials (Pace Changers). New specials this year include:Celebrate the City New York, Cans across America,Home for the Holidays,Jassland Jamboree new Orleans,Salsa South Beach Miami,  Picnic in the Yellowstone Park, and Stir up Excitement Austin Texas.

Flash in the Pan. Here we provide you with a smoking, seasoned and flavorful low fat protein item, tofu, and veggie crumbles to top your salad. This is considered a healthy choice spot.

Hot off the Grill. In this area, we feature our famous Crossroads burger along with other items such as, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, corn dogs, vegetable patties, grilled cheese sandwiches, hot dogs, chili dogs, French fries and cheese sauce. It’s the best grill spot in town. Patty Melts and Fish Sandwiches upon request.

The Deli Case. Come and enjoy all your favorite deli meats, cheeses and toppings. You can even make your deli sandwich piping hot with our sandwich grill. This is another one of our healthy choice spots.

Farmer’s Market. Here yet another healthy choice is available to you. Three types of greens with loads of healthy toppings, two fat-free dressings plus four of your favorite dressings can be found. In addition, fruit and prepared salads are available daily.

Tossed around Pizza & Pasta. Come and enjoy some of our special Cassarette meals. Items such as Cheese Nachos, Ravioli, Manicotti, and much more. Always available are Alfredo Sauce, Marinara Sauce, and fresh Garlic Bread. We also offer many pizza delights, plus a specialty pizza of the week.

Lastly, but definitely not least, On the Rise Bake Shop. Come and taste some of our Pastry Chef’s finest desserts.

Sack Lunch Program:

If you have a class or job conflict during the normal meal hours and are a residential student, you can complete a sack lunch menu request. The key here is to remember that you must have your request in at least 48 hours in advance. Policy forms and request sheets can be obtained from the Sodexho outer office, which is located off the kitchen in the Memorial Student Center.

Grab N Go Sack Lunch Special:

How this special works is when you come to the Commons you simply tell the Headcheck person that you would like a Grab N Go Sack Lunch, and they’ll hand you one right there. You must walk back out of the Commons after receiving one and you may eat it wherever your heart desires. You are not allowed to take a Grab N Go Sack Lunch and eat it in the Commons, nor can you eat in the Commons and then ask for a Grab N Go Sack Lunch on your way out. We do ask that you recycle all disposable items from the sack lunch. No littering on Campus please. The Grab N Go Sack Lunch includes a Sandwich, Fruit, Cookies, Salad, and a Beverage, either 1 carton of milk or a 12 ounce canned beverage. A Vegetarian option will also be available.
