Angoulême St-Pierre - facade

Angouleme St Pierre

The Cathedral of Angoulême, built in the 12th century, is in characteristic Poitevin style, with its arcaded facade and conical turrets. Its face is a rich historiated tableau bearing more than 70 sculpted figures. Though these principally illustrate the Last Judgment, one also finds such diverse themes as the sending forth of the apostles, St. Martin of Tours dividing his cloak, and the Song of Roland.
