Illinois Wesleyan University Chapter. Article 1: Name Section 1 The name of this organization shall be the Association for Computing Machinery, Illinois Wesleyan University Chapter. Article 2: Purpose Section 1 The purposes of the IWU Local Chapter of ACM shall be: To advance the sciences and the arts of information processing including, but not restricted to the study, design, development, construction, and application of modern machinery, computing techniques and appropriate languages for general information processing, for scientific computation, for the recognition, storage, retrieval, and processing of all data of all kinds, and for the automatic control and simulation of processes. To promote the free interchange of information about the sciences and arts of information processing both among specialists and among the public in the best scientific and professional tradition. To develop and maintain the integrity and competence of individuals engaged in the practice of the sciences and arts of information processing. Section 2 The Chapter is organized and will be operated primarily for educational and scientific purposes. Article 3: Membership Section 1 Membership is available to anyone interested in the practices of the sciences and arts of information processing and technology.Membership is available for a local due as specified by the current executive board. Also, in no aspect of its program shall there be any difference in the treatment of persons because of race, creed, color, national origin, disability, age, gender, any consideration based on affection, sexual, or associational preference, or any other classification which would deprive the person consideration as an individual. Section 2 Membership, as stated above, is available in the Local Chapter, as well as in the International Chapter, though International Chapter membership is not a requirement of Local Chapter membership. Section 3 Membership is exclusive to current students faculty and staff of Illinois Wesleyan University. Article 4: The Responsibilities of Members Section 1 Members shall be expected to exhibit behavior befitting an ACM member and shall be expected to act in accordance with the rules and regulations prescribed by the International ACM Chapter. Section 2 Should the situation arise where a member commits undesirable behavior, then member can be expelled from the Local Chapter, the current executive board, in conjunction with the faculty advisor, shall judge the situation on a case by case basis. Article 5: Officers and Duties Section 1 All Officers of the Chapter must be members of the Local ACM Chapter. Section 2 The duties of the President shall be:
Article 6: Advisor Section 1 The advisor of this chapter should assist when necessary with the programs and activities of the chapter. Section 2 He/she shall be selected by nomination of the executive board, and voted upon by the chapter. Voting shall take place upon the beginning of each school year, and may also occur as need, to be determined by the exec board, should the current advisor be unable to fulfill his/her duties. Section 3 The Advisor must be a member of the International ACM Chapter. Article 7: Meetings Section 1 Meetings shall take place bi-weekly, as designated by the executive board. Section 2 Members shall be notified at least two (2) days prior to the actual meeting. Section 3 Every meeting shall consist of: A report by all members of the executive board, if necessary, and then new business shall be brought up. NO official voting can take place without quorum, which herein shall be designated as a simple majority of the active membership of the chapter. Section 4 Additional meetings can be called through the authority of the executive board, as long as the active chapter is notified two days before the date of the meeting. Section 5 The Chapter shall hold meetings only in places that are open and accessible to all members of the Association. Article 8: Elections Section 1 The election process shall begin the second meeting of the second semester. The process shall start with the nomination of new officials. Nomination can occur from any active member in the chapter, be it by someone else, or by his/herself. At the next meeting, the active chapter shall vote on the new officials. Voting cannot take place if quorum is not met. Each candidate will be given a brief amount of time to assert their qualifications and goals of their desired position. A nominee is considered elected if he/she receives the most votes of the members currently at the meeting. Section 2 The International ACM Chapter shall be notified by the newly elected vice-president of the changes to the executive board. Article 9: Finances Section 1 Dues: The amount of the dues shall be determined by the current executive board, at the beginning of the first semester. Section 2 All financial matters shall be documented by the treasurer of the chapter. Should there be a need, the treasurer will also discuss matters privately with the student senate treasurer. Section 3 Should the chapter dissolve, all money remaining will go to the Computer Science Department of Illinois Wesleyan University. Article 10: Amendments Section 1 Anyone wishing to amend the constitution may do so by presenting their amendment to the chapter at any chapter meeting. This amendment will then be sent to all active members of the chapter. Voting on the amendment will take place at the next meeting. No voting shall take place if quorum is not met. An amendment is considered ratified if 75% of the members in attendance vote their approval.
