Fort Natatorium Classroom

Spinning is the original indoor cycling program that combines a foundation of basic cycling movements with motivational instructional techniques, breathing awareness and great overall conditioning. The activity is non-impact, individually paced cardiovascular exercise. Inspirational music and non-competitive environment ensure a fun, effective experience for participants of all fitness levels.

IWU Indoor Cycle Group

Tuesday/Thursday 12:00 - 1:00 pm
Fort Natatorium Classroom

Join a group of avid cyclists anytime between noon and 1:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays as they pedal all around the world without ever leaving IWU. Guided by motivational DVD's, set in different locales and projected on a big screen, you'll have an opportunity to increase your spinning intensity, or work at your own pace in a friendly welcoming atmosphere.

Pilates

Come invigorate your mind, strengthen your core, and condition your body using the principles of Pilates. Pilates teaches body awareness and good posture while increasing core strength, flexibility, & agility. Class will focus on classic mat Pilates using stability balls and hand weights to tone arms, legs and upper back as well as the core, taking you through everything you need to achieve a fit and healthy body.

Social Dance

Mondays 5:50-6:35 pm
CNS Dance Studio A

Class runs April 29 - May 20.

Everyone can learn to dance! You will learn basic rhythm skills, walk swing, cha cha, fox trot, jitter bug and a little bit of salsa. This class will leave you ready to go out and "cut the rug," but will not prepare you to compete in "Dancing with the Stars." By the end of this four-week session you will have a better grasp on some basic and essential social dance skills.

Wee Swim

Spring Session: April 16 - May 21

This class is for parents and children (6 mo.-3 yrs.) who want to explore the wonders of the water together. Activities include blowing bubbles, kicking, singing, and playing with bath toys. The purpose of the class is to provide encouragement and offer a positive water experience in a relaxed, fun environment.

Yoga I The Basics

The journey that is yoga begins with this class as you learn or review basic asanas (postures), practice breath work and meditation in a relaxing environment while building strength, increasing flexibility, and improving balance. This gentle class will be tailored to meet the needs of the individual yogis.

Yoga II Beyond the Basics

In Yoga II you will step up the intensity a bit with this gentle intermediate-level class.  The postures (asanas) are practiced in a  flowing style known as Vinyasa. The class will work with some finer points of alignment and practice holding the postures a bit longer to develop strength and focus. This class will encourage self-exploration through yoga asanas, breathing, relaxation, and meditation.

Functional Training

This class will introduce the concept of functional training and teach exercises that will not only increase muscular strength and endurance, but also improve balance, agility, and stamina by mimicking everyday movement patterns. Various training systems and modalities including resistive tubing and free weights will be explored while emphasizing safety through proper execution.

ZUMBA is a fun Latin inspired, dance fitness class that is taking the world by storm! The class incorporates exciting and unique Latin moves and rhythms into an effective fitness system. ZUMBA allows you to dance your way to a fitter you in a friendly party like atmosphere!

Cardio kickboxing combines aerobics, boxing and martial arts into an exciting, dynamic workout intended to enhance cardiovascular fitness, muscular endurance and self-confidence. Modifications are offered so that an individual at any fitness level can participate in the class.

Beginning Hatha Yoga

This beginning class focuses on using the breath in combination with yoga postures (asanas) to allow the body to open and start to release tension, tightness and stress.  This class will encourage development of strength, balance, coordination and flexibility of the mind, body, and spirit.

Hoop Dance Fitness

Hula Hoops are making a comeback! Learn how to take this well-known toy and transform it into a full body, high cardio workout. Maybe you couldn't hoop as a child. No fear! You will learn basic moves necessary to work your core, open your chest and hips, strengthen your back and tone muscles from head to toe. Everybody will learn at their own pace in a fun, laid back atmosphere. Smile while you sweat! Comfortable natural fibers are best to wear. Hula Hoops are provided during class.

This brisk paced deep-water exercise class is designed to exhilarate your lunchtime by using the resistance of the water to build stronger bones and muscled while increasing flexibility. Use a floatation belt for an easier workout or go "beltless" to incorporate cardio into your workout by treading water.

This class is designed for those who are already fairly comfortable in the water but are not great swimmers. The aim of the class will be to improve form and efficiency with the basic freestyle or the front crawl stroke.
