WELCOME!!   Over a thousand trees grace the grounds of Illinois Wesleyan University Arboretum.  Comprised of nearly ninety distinct species, when trying to recognize each from the other, one might be reminded of the old adage, "you can't see the forest for the trees!"  To help you discover our forest, we've selected  "representatives" from each species to include on a walking map.  From your computer you can stroll (that is, SCROLL ) along the streets & sidewalks of our campus to get a look at just what's growing here.  Keep in mind as you do, however, that the map is only representative.  Everything NOT on the map, you'll have to search out for yourself.  (Sorry we can't show them all, but...well...remember the old adage...!)

We truly hope you've enjoyed "scrolling" around the campus of IWU.

Our
grounds are ever-changing, from the flowering trees in spring, to the stark contrasts & textures of winter.  Some of the trees featured above have been tenured here for almost a hundred years, while others are just "starting freshmen."  Home & food to the campus squirrels, nightly roosts for our Screech Owls, each tree is a dynamic part of the campus environment with its own unique place & pupose.

Wandering our map will give you a taste of what's here to be discovered.  But, to fully appreciate the beauty of our campus is to walk among the trees, because only in person does the map come alive!  So...if we've whet your appetite for a closer look, please print a map...

Grab your walking stick & STROLL our beautiful arboretum at Illinois Wesleyan University!!!

*We'd like to offer special recognition to the high school students of SIU Edwardsville's East St. Louis Charter School, whose colorful leaves decorate the pages of our
Website.  Under the guidance of Jess Davidson (SIUE Art Education graduate student), these young artists spent many weeks designing these beauties for us.  THANKS to Jess & her students for each of their individual contributions....
