Courses of Study

Within the liberal arts tradition of Illinois Wesleyan University, the School of Theatre Arts strives to create an environment conducive to the development of theatre artists, scholars and audiences. Theatre Arts majors are urged to strengthen their understanding of the complex world they live in while they develop and sharpen their skills as theatre artists and scholars. Close interaction with fellow students, faculty and guest artists helps to foster this development. Our specialized degree programs are designed for students aspiring professional careers in theatre.

Curricular Programs

The School of Theatre Arts offers four degrees: a BFA in Acting, a BFA in Theatre Design & Technology, a BFA in Music Theatre and a BA in Theatre Arts. 

Students applying for admission to a bachelor of fine arts degree must meet admission criteria for Illinois Welseyan University and the School of Theatre Arts. Learn more about the School of Theatre Arts application process  here.

Both the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees include a broad liberal arts background with a core foundation in practical and theoretical theatre courses.

Additionally, we offer minors in Theatre Arts, Dance, Arts Management, Theatre Design & Technology and Film Studies.
