The mission of the PPC is" "we pledge ourselves to the awakening of compassion and understanding among all peoples. We strive to foster mutual respect regardless of sexual orientation, creed, race, gender, gender identity, or physical ability through outreach and education."
Our mission statement:
The goal of the east-Central Illinois Safe Schools Alliance (eCISSA) is eliminate all bullying of LGBTQ students and to create a school environment where youth feel nurtured and safe to be themselves, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We work with our parent organization, the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance (ISSA), to provide school staff and administration the information and tools necessary to create a safe atmosphere to promote youth education.
As members of PFLAG we have learned that lesbians, bisexuals, gay and transgender people come from families from all corners of the earth, from every culture, and from every religious and ethnic group. Sexual orientation is neither chosen nor taught; it is not "just a stage" of development.
As members of PFLAG, we have learned to affirm our loved ones' sexual orientation; we recognize their expression of love as natural and moral.
We view rejection of lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender persons by their families as tragedy. We respect the right of each person to be who he or she authentically is.
Finally, we believe that by speaking out and breaking the silence surrounding homosexuality, we replace prejudice and stereotypes with truth. PFLAG has opened new windows of understanding for us and we seek to share that understanding with others.
ISU Pride is Illinois State University's only student organization on campus that caters to LGBT students as well as allies.
