Senate Committees

Committees are a large part of how Senate keeps up with the ever changing needs on campus. Every committee has at least one executive board member as well as members from the body of the Senate. Certain committees allow for students who are not a voting member in Student Senate to have a position on them. To find out more about the committees and who is a part of each committee follow the links below.

All-Campus Events (ACE)

The All Campus Events Committee is a programming and planning committee that focuses on events organized through the Student Senate Entertainment Commission. The committee recently put together concerts by The Hush Sound, Ingram Hill, Gavin DeGraw, and Ben Folds, and a comedy show featuring Patton Oswalt and Doug Benson. Open to all students. Meets in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Charity and Welfare

The Charity and Welfare Committee organizes efforts - including fund-raisers, volunteer opportunities, awareness activities, and benefits for charitable organizations. Primarily, this committee plans Discovering a New You Week. Open to all students. Meets in the Fall semester.

Constitutional Revisions (Con-Rev)

This committee is charged with drafting constitutional revisions. They meet periodically for revisions. A minimum of three senators sit on this committee. Open only to Senators. Meets in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Current Events

The Current Events Committee provides the IWU community with programming on current issues of both a domestic and international level. Open to all students. Meets in the Spring semester.

Elections

Charged with running campus elections and maintaining the Elections Code. A minimum of five Senators sit on this committee. Works primarily around the time of elections. Open only to Senators. Meets in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Financial Advisory Board (FAB)

FAB is the fiscal management agency for the Student Senate and prepares and administers its budget and allocates funds to student organizations in accordance with the Code of Finances. The Committee is an elected position, composed of six people that are voted onto the committee by the Senate body. Open only to Senators. Meets in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Gender Issues

The Gender Issues Committee informs, educates and provides programs dealing with issues pertinent to women and men. Primarily, this committee plans and coordinates Gender Issues Week. Open to all students. Meets in the Spring semester.

Issues and Programming

Create programs to inform and encourage students to become engaged in the world outside of IWU. The focus of this committee is to determine which current events need to be specially acknowledged on campus and to create a venue for discussion. Open only to Senators. Meets in the Fall semester.

May Term

The May Term Committee provides educational programming which supports the May Term theme while providing entertainment opportunities for students on campus during May Term. Open to all students. Meets in the Spring semester.

Multicultural

The multicultural committee helps to support various cultural groups on campus and helps with the Soul Food Dinner. Open to all students. Meets in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Phoenix Theatre Committee

This committee helps foster the use and care of the Phoenix and helps to plan, coordinate and assist in the theatrical performances planned there. Open only to Senators. Meets in the Spring semester.

Publicity (PR)

The Publicity Committee publicizes events for Student Senate and other student organizations. Open to all students. Meets in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Religious Life

The Religious Life Committee plans, coordinates, and assists with the IWU religious activities with the exception of the weekly program provided by the Evelyn Chapel Committee. Open to all students.

Resolutions Committee

This committee is charged with drafting Resolutions. This is a five-person committee and meets as needed. Open only to Senators. Meets in the Spring semester.

Scholarship

The Student Senate gives out the Minor Myers Jr. Scholarship each year during the spring semester. This committee reviews applications and helps select the winner each year. Open only to Senators. Meets in the Spring semester.

Senate Activity

This committee is charged with holding activities that will encourage greater Student Senate membership, as well as encourage fellowship and camaraderie among current Student Senators. Open only to Senators. Meets in the Fall and Spring semester.

Strategic Planning Committee (SPC)

This committee follows up on all proposals passed by the Senate and acts as a sounding board and to facilitate the implantation of innovative student ideas, particularly regarding University policies and procedures. Open only to Senators. Meets in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Student Concerns

The duties of this committee are to promote effective communications between student groups, faculty, and administration regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation. This committee also serves as the sounding board for all current student issues including, but not limited to, university physical facility issues and university interpersonal affairs affecting student affairs. Open to all students. Meets in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Student Service Liaison Committee

The duties of the Student Service Liaison Committee are to inform the Senate of changes within and maintain good communications with Sodexo, the Hart Career Center, computer centers, Arnold Health Services, The Ames Library, campus security, and to relay concerns of the student body to these parts of campus. Open to all students. Meets in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Survey and Calendar

This committee is primarily concerned with the contracting and assembly of the Student Calendar Notebooks in the spring, as well as advising and creating any surveys that need to be taken on behalf of Student Senate throughout the year. Open to all students. Meets in the Spring semester.
