Emily's area of research specialization is the history of early modern philosophy, roughly the period ranging from 1550 C.E. to 1800 C.E. She works primarily on the philosophy of David Hume and Rene Descartes, focusing on the methodological approaches of each thinker. Beyond the history of early modern philosophy, her teaching interests include metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of religion, and existentialism.
Some of the courses she will be teaching during her first year at IWU are Mind and World and Hume's Philosophy of Religion.
