Requirements for the Philosophy Major and Minor

The Major Sequence:
Each student majoring in philosophy must take a minimum of 10 course units in philosophy to include:

1) Elementary Symbolic Logic (Phil. 102)
     History of Ancient Philosophy (Phil. 280)
     History of Modern Philosophy (Phil. 281)
2) Four upper division courses in philosophy (but not including Phil. 397). These four must include:

  1. Epistemology (Phil. 350) or Metaphysics (Phil. 351)
  2. Ethical Theory (Phil. 304) or Contemporary Ethics (Phil. 356)
  3. Major Philosophers and Philosophical Movements (Phil. 355)

The Minor Sequence:
A minimum of six courses to include:
1) Elementary Symbolic Logic (Phil. 102)
    History of Ancient Philosophy (Phil. 280)
    History of Modern Philosophy (Phil. 281)
2) two additional courses at the upper–division level (but not including Phil. 397).
