Residence Directors (RDs), working to meet student needs, are integral members of the Student Affairs team. RDs are young professionals interested in the development of college students. Within the residence halls, their major responsibility is to translate the philosophy of the IWU residence hall program into a practical and meaningful set of services, activities and programs for students. In addition to counseling residents concerning personal and/or academic concerns, RDs are responsible for promoting hall programs and activities, advising hall governments and managing all aspects of residence hall life. In this process, RDs promote the development of skills for leadership, decision making, conflict resolution, fiscal management, problem solving and self-discipline. RDs live in apartments in the upper division residence halls. There are three RDs on staff.
Area Directors serve as an RD in the hall where they live, and supervise a half-time Graduate Residence Director in an additional facility. The GRD completes most of the responsibilities of the RD position within their building, but some higher-level responsibilities, such as judicial meetings and terminations, fall to the Area Director. Area Directors and GRDs live in apartments in the first-year residence halls. There are two Area Directors and two Graduate Residence Directors on staff.
Graduate Residence Directors, Residence Directors, Area Directors and are all referred to as RDs on our campus, and staff in the three positions make up the Residential Life Professional Staff along with the Director and Associate Directors of Residential Life.
RDs are busy people . This list shows the commitments they keep on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
