Sara grew up right here in Bloomington, IL and attended Normal Community High School before choosing to attend Illinois Wesleyan. Even though she was hesitant to consider going to Illinois Wesleyan because she had lived in Bloomington her whole life, she is so glad she decided to come here. Sara knew she would receive a strong education in Business and be given many opportunities that she may not have had otherwise. Everyone - faculty, staff, and students - has been so friendly and welcoming to this beautiful campus, and she is so thankful to have called this her home for the past 2 years.
Sara is currently a Marketing Intern for the new Sonic Drive-In that will be opening in town at the end of the summer 2011. She also works at Savvi Formalwear and Bobbie's Bridal as a bridal consultant. During the school year, she plans to help at the Office of Student Activities and help coordinate events that happen around campus.
Because she works two jobs during the school year, Sara is not nearly as involved as she would like to be, but in her free time she is involved in Alpha Kappa Psi, the business fraternity on campus. She also helps out occasionally with events at Hansen, and this fall she plans to help with some marketing aspects of Titan TV. In the Bloomington-Normal community, she works as a Sunday School teacher at her church and helps a local band with marketing initiatives.
Sara is a very happy, outgoing person and she loves meeting new people and spending time with friends. She also enjoys arts and crafts, traveling, playing piano, taking pictures, and listening to music. She's always up for anything, so if she has the time and you have the plan, she's in.
Her favorite memory of her own orientation is just remembering how many people she connected with and how much she learned about them in a week. It was so exciting to see a group of strangers come together during the group activities and act as if they had known each other their whole lives.
Sara's advice for new students:
Don't be afraid of changing your opinion about things. You go to college to learn and grow, and being open-minded will help you become the person you're meant to be.
