Best thing about being a Titan:
The best thing about being a Titan is seeing how invested Illinois Wesleyan University is in the community and their commitment to the cultivation of talented students.
Where do you like to hang out on campus?
Dugout!
Do you work on or off campus? Where?
I work off campus at State Farm Insurance Companies.
Campus / community organizations you are involved in?
I am involved with Varsity Track and Field (Captain), Student Senate, Black Student Union, IWU Mentoring Program, Volunteering, Alpha Kappa Delta Honor Society, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
What was your favorite part of Turning Titan?
I absolutely loved my Titan Orientation Leader. She was outgoing and very involved on campus.
What was your favorite class at IWU? What about your favorite class during your first year at IWU?
My favorite class at IWU was Psychology of Racism. That class was eye opening and it provided a safe space for students to talk about race critically regardless of color. My favorite class the first year at IWU was my Gateway, hands down. I don't remember the name of the class, but we explored social normative behaviors and why they exist. But also, we applied the theories about that stuff on campus. Ex: As a way to apply normative behavior, we had to act outside of the norm. So basically we ended up knitting in Sodexo Food Services!
Any interesting hobbies?...any hobbies at all…
I love poker! Hanging out with friends, either in the resident hall or at a party is always fun. Going with friends to do something none of the people in the group has ever done is GREAT. i.e. Paintballing (My Jaw Still Hurts!)
Favorite way to spend a sunny day in Bloomington / on campus?
I highly encourage everyone to go to a park (water park as well) and just play. A lot of the times we get so caught up in the work we do that we forget to have fun. There is a time for studying (everyday), and there is a time for letting loose (when you have time). lol...no really, you should have fun...but focus on your grades and volunteering...then have fun.
Something that you absolutely couldn’t live without (on campus)…
Food would be the obvious choice, but if I had to choose something other than food, it would be friends. Not just sticking with the people you know in the beginning of your first year, but people that may not look like you or like the same things you like. And not just forming contractual relationships with classmates strictly to study with, but everyone. We should all just be friends...
Anything else you want to share…
THE KEY TO SUCCESS IS FINDING WHAT YOU LOVE AND DOING WHATEVER IT TAKES TO MAKE IT WORK! If this means going to every office hour, sitting in front in every class you are in, staying up and waking up early to study, getting off campus to understand a particular field better, volunteering, talking to your professors after class, etc. Do what you need to do so you can do what you want to do...and hopefully the two will combine.
