Becoming an Effective Money Manager: One thing that a student will quickly realize as they obtain their first bank account is that they will get themselves into trouble if they are not keeping track of their money. In this session we will talk about how to help your student effectively manage their money. These sessions will be held in CNS E102. Capacity for this room is 25.

Career Center Close-up: Majors, Internships, Career Planning & More! Although graduation is four years away, it's not too soon to start thinking about how you can support your IWU student in his or her career planning. Learn about the Hart Career Center's many services, including personalized career guidance assistance and career exploration through internship opportunities, job shadowing, career fairs and more! Discover how you can assist your student now to encourage future career success. These sessions will be held in CNS C102. Capacity for this room is 116.

Embracing, Engaging, and Empowering Multicultural Students: Come learn about the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and engage a student panel. This Office offers support services for ALANA (African-American, Latino/a-American, Asian-American, Native-American) students and provides campus wide programming that educates about acceptance of differences. This session will be held in CNS E108. Capacity for this room is 24.

Forms and More Forms- Financial Aid and Business Office: This session explains the money matters affecting students. It covers where to cash a personal check, understanding your IWU monthly statement, information on employment and the work study program, and financial aid opportunities for qualifying students. This session will be held in Young Main Lounge, Memorial Center. Capacity for this room is 370.

From Aberdeen to Zagreb--An Introduction to Study Abroad at IWU: IWU's International Office oversees semester-length, year-long, and summer study abroad programs. From Argentina to Vietnam, from Aberdeen to Zagreb, we offer study abroad programs in over 70 countries/regions and in hundreds of locations, with programs that are suited to almost every major on campus. Come to the information session and learn more. These sessions will be held in Davidson Room in the Memorial Center. Capacity for this room is 80.

Health Care and Healthy Choices. The Director of Health Service and the IWU Dietician will speak on health care and concerns, insurance needs, and services offered by the Health Service. There will be conversation on diet, exercise, general health and healthy choices to offer balance to the student's quality of college life. A Q&A session will follow. These sessions will be held in CNS E106. Capacity for this room is 28.

Introduction to Disability Services: This presentation is geared to parents whose sons or daughters have had an IEP or 504 plan in high school, and/or whose children have a documented disability or disabling condition (for which treatment is currently being provided by a board certified doctor). This presentation will include an overview of the services we offer, documentation guidelines, academic accommodations, campus accessibility information and other helpful information. This session will be held in CNS E103. Capacity for this room is 40.

 

 

Living and Learning at IWU: At IWU, learning is not limited to classroom interactions. Students learn from each other every day as they interact in their residence hall communities. Discover the facilities, staff and programming frameworks designed to help ease students' transition from home to hall and encourage educational experiences. These sessions will be held in CNS C101. Capacity for this room is 179.

Research 101: Going beyond Google in order to excel at college-level course work: Relying on Google may have worked in high school, but professors expect college students to know how to access, evaluate and appropriately use academic sources for their course assignments. This session will help you to understand the excellent scholarly resources available to Illinois Wesleyan University students and how library faculty can help your student succeed at the college level and beyond. These sessions will be held in CNS E105. Capacity for this room is 25.

 

Spiritual and Religious Life: During college, students are invited to ask and to live questions of meaning and purpose in challenging and transforming ways. Come and learn about the spiritual growth opportunities available for students at IWU as well as Evelyn Chapel's commitment to engaging students in making connections between the liberal arts, social justice, and multifaith society. This session will also introduce you to the Student Volunteer and Resource Center which seeks to match student passions with community need and sponsors Fall and Spring Alternative Break programs. These sessions will be held in E104. Capacity for this room is 40.

Student Life: It's More Than Just Being Social! Do you have questions about how your student can get involved on-campus? Do you want to know more about IWU programs and initiatives to help your student succeed? Have you ever wondered what events will be available to your students on the weekends? Then, this session is for you! This session will discuss the various ways that your student can get involved outside of the classroom including weekend activities, volunteer opportunities, and how to get involved in registered student organizations. These sessions will be held in CNS E101. Capacity for this room is 40.

Students Tell It Like It Is: A panel of IWU students will share information about their first-year experiences at IWU and then open the floor to questions from the parents. Associate Dean of Students will serve as moderator. These sessions will be held in CNS E108. Capacity for this room is 24.

To Greek or Not to Greek: The Benefits of Fraternity & Sorority Membership: During this session you will hear from both staff and students as you learn about the benefits of fraternity or sorority membership. A portion of the session will be set aside to address any questions or concerns that you may have about your student deciding to join. These sessions will be held in CNS E103. Capacity for this room is 40.
