Education

Ann L. Eckhardt received a B.S.N. from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2003 and her Ph.D. in September 2012 from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Biography

Prior to joining the faculty at Illinois Wesleyan University in 2011, Dr. Eckhardt was a teaching assistant for a number of graduate and undergraduate courses at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Eckhardt continues to work at Carle Foundation Hospital where she began her nursing career in 2003. Her nursing experience includes three years in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit where she cross trained to Surgical/Trauma and Neonatal Intensive Care. For the past five years, she has worked as an Administrative House Officer. Dr. Eckhardt’s dissertation research, “Fatigue as a symptom of coronary heart disease,” was funded by Sigma Theta Tau International and the Midwest Nursing Research Society. Her dissertation research uses a mixed methods approach to study this complex symptom. Dr. Eckhardt has published qualitative and quantitative articles in the areas of coronary artery bypass surgery and heart disease symptomatology.

Honors and Memberships

Dr. Eckhardt is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, Midwest Nursing Research Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science, American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the American Heart Association.
