BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Nelly’s Echo will perform at the Hansen Student Center (300 Beecher St.) on Jan 18th at 8 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
According to their website Nelly’s Echo is neither a band nor a solo musician; it is a concept of musical experience associated with its creator Nelson Emokpae. Emokpae formed Nelly’s Echo in early 2007 based on the premise that music is a two way street. Thus “Nelly’s” refers to the musician or the music and “Echo” refers to the audience’s appreciation of the music. Nelly’s Echo has released two albums and has performed at more than 100 colleges.
Nigerian-born Emokpae fled his home country at the age of 15 along with his family and two suitcases. The family settled in Baltimore where Emokpae enhanced his vocal skills and started playing guitar. After working as a physical therapist for a while, Emokpae quit his job to focus completely on his music.
