BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Eileen Galvez, former student life coordinator of leadership and diversity at Austin Community College (ACC) in Texas, has been named assistant director of Multicultural Student Affairs. She began work at Illinois Wesleyan on August 14.
At ACC, a campus with over 5,000 students, Galvez developed and oversaw leadership and diversity programs and initiatives for all eight campuses under the college. She worked with a very diverse group of students and enabled them with the tools to be successful.
Regarding her new position at IWU, Galvez said, “My passion in student affairs lies in promoting and working with diverse initiatives. Being Latina and having previously worked in a multicultural office, I understand the importance of having resources for students.”
Galvez was also director of collegiate affairs for the National Executive Council- Sigma Delta Lambda Sorority, Inc. She earned a master’s degree in education for guidance and counseling with an emphasis in student affairs as well as a bachelor of arts degree in political science with a psychology minor from Texas State University, San Marcos (TSUS). Galvez was a graduate intern in the office of multicultural student affairs at TSUS and was very active in student life leadership there. In 2007, 2008 and 2010, she was listed in Who’s Who Among Texas State Students.
“As assistant director of Multicultural Student Affairs, I will share my wealth of experience and knowledge, flexibility, teamwork, commitment to diversity, personality and aspiration to continue to learn from others at Illinois Wesleyan University,” said Galvez.
