BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Eight Illinois Wesleyan University student bands will battle for first place at the 22nd biannual “Undercover” competition on Friday, March 22 at 8 p.m. at the Hansen Student Center (300 Beecher St., Bloomington).
The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Office of Student Activities.
“Undercover” is a music competition for individual students and student bands held every semester. Students cover songs by well-known performers and are judged by a guest panel on criteria such as the accuracy of the songs and audience engagement. Each of the acts will perform two songs and prizes are awarded for the first, second and third place winners.
The host for the competition will be Dakaboom, an edgy music-driven comedy duo comprised of actors and musicians Ben McLain and Paul Peglar. Dakaboom’s modernized vaudeville performances combine the musical genres of pop, hip-hop, opera, jazz, musical theatre, electronica and a cappella.
The following bands and musicians will be performing: The Red Scarves, The Patrick Chambers Orchestra, The Tribute to the Tribute, Devin Ross & Ralph Pineda, Maggie Sheridan, The Offbeat, Shane McGowan and Abby Lyons & Hilary Schneider.
