BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – On Friday, Feb. 17 Illinois Wesleyan University’s School of Music will host a guest recital featuring Serafim Smigelskiy. The recital will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1312 Park St., Bloomington). This event is free and open to the public.
Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, Smigelskiy has been playing the cello since age six. According to Smigelskiy’s professional website, he is one of today’s most promising young cellists and has performed internationally as a soloist and a chamber musician across the United States, Russia, Germany, Austria, Japan, Finland, Poland and the United Arab Emirates.
Smigelskiy’s performance will include Bach’s “Cello Suite No. 3” in C major, Beethoven’s “Variations on ‘See the conqu’ring hero’ for Cello and Piano” and Brahm’s “The Cello9 Sonata No. 2” in F major.
