BLOOMINGTON, Ill.— Illinois Wesleyan University invites students and their families to share some laughs during the sitcom-themed Family Weekend, which will take place Friday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Sept. 30.
Named after the popular 1980’s show, “Family Ties,” this year’s Family Weekend costs $20 per person and includes dinner on Saturday, entry to athletic events and tickets for evening performances. Families can register online at www.iwu.edu/activities/FamilyWeekend.
“Family Weekend is a venue where siblings, parents, cousins, and grandparents can visit their IWU students and see what college life looks like while also engaging in entertaining activities,” said Colin Stewart, director of student activities and the IWU leadership programs.
Family members will have the opportunity to learn about academic and social life at Illinois Wesleyan as well as take a tour of the campus in the afternoons. Also, there will be carnival games, a caricature artist and face painting on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. on the Eckley Quadrangle.
One of the featured events of the weekend is a performance by Mission Improvable, said by critics to be the nations’ number one touring improv comedy act, on Saturday at 9 p.m. Families can spend the night laughing at the “Backstreet Boys of Improv,” who have preformed at Chicago comedy clubs like Second City and the Improv Olympics. Each skit is original and is actively shaped by audience participation.
Activities will take place at the Hansen Student Center (300 Beecher Street), Kemp Hall (1207 N. Main Street), Evelyn Chapel (1301 N. Park Street), Memorial Center (104 E. University Ave.), The Eckley Quadrangle, Neis Soccer Field, Tucci Stadium (300 Titan Dr.) and Bertholf Commons (104 E. University Ave.). See the schedule of events for the weekend.
