BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University School of Music will present several recitals on Saturday, April 9 in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 N. Park St., Bloomington). The recitals are free and open to the public.
Seniors Sarah Bencomo and Brad Campbell, both of Naperville, Ill., will open the series of recitals at 1 p.m. Flautist Bencomo, a music education major, will begin the performance with her rendition of Sonatine pour flute et piano. Bencomo will be joined by Marcia Hishman, adjunct professor and accompanist, on the piano. Bencomo will also perform pieces by Sigfrid Karg-Elert and Eldin Burton.
Campbell, an orchestral instruments major, will perform a piece by Mario Pelusi, director of the school of music and professor of composition and theory, on soprano saxophone. Campbell, joined on the piano by adjunct faculty member Nancy Pounds, will perform a composition by Lars-Erik Larsson and will close the performance with a Paul Creston pieces on alto saxophone.
Mezzo-soprano Emily Hopkins of Boone, N.C. will perform at 3 p.m. Hopkins, a senior vocal performance major, will perform a number of pieces, including compositions by Alessandro Scarlatti, Benjamin Britten, Fernando Obradors and Georges Bizet. Hopkins will also be joined by Hishman on the piano.
Senior baritone Daniel Megli of Sterling, Ill. will perform at 5 p.m. Megli, a vocal performance major, will perform, among many, works by Henry Purcell, Bach, Hugo Wolf and Mozart. Visiting Assistant Professor of Music and Coordinator of Accompanying Eva Ferguson will accompany Megli on the piano.
