BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University School of Theatre Arts will present two student-directed productions, Leonce and Lena, directed by Marti Lyons (class of ’08) and Woyzeck, directed by Martin Langrall (class of ’08). The shows will be presented together, beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23 and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 24 in the E. Melba Johnson Kirkpatrick Laboratory Theatre (304 E. Graham St., Bloomington).
Leonce and Lena was written by Georg Büchner in the summer of 1836 when he was living in Strasborg, France, while in German exile. This satirical play tells the story of a young prince and a beautiful princess who are trying to reach their happy ending. Wozyzeck, also written by Georg Büchner, was left fragmented and unfinished when the playwright unexpectedly died at age 24. This play is a tragic story about a man who earns money by acting as a regimental servant to his captain and by participating as a subject for a doctor’s many experiments.
