BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University School of Music will present a faculty recital featuring Lisa Nelson, adjunct faculty member, on viola and Carol Churukian, adjunct faculty member, on piano Sunday Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. in Westbrook Auditorium of Presser Hall (1210 Park St., Bloomington).
The event is free and open to the public.
Recital pieces will include Sonata in E♭ Major, Op. 120, No. 2 by Johannes Brahms, Suite Hebraique by Ernest Bloch as well as Nocturne and Rondo by Kirkor, Romance by Davidoff, Spinning Wheel by Yanshinov, Sonata in G Major by Vandini, Lamento by Faure, Scherzetto bye Cui and Scherzo by Stoyanov.
Nelson, viola and violin instructor at Illinois Wesleyan, is a member of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and the Sinfonia Da Camera. She has performed with the Peoria Symphony, Opera Illinois and Champaign-Urbana Symphony.
Nelson is also the executive director if the Illinois Wesleyan Summer Music Program and is on the faculty of the International Music Course and Festival in Positano, Italy.
Churukian, a staff accompanist at Illinois Wesleyan since 1992, will accompany Nelson. She also teaches private piano lessons out of her home and has been an organist at St. John’s Lutheran Church since 1998.
