BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan University’s School of Music will present a student composition recital on April 15 at 8 p.m. in Westbrook Auditorium (1210 N. Park St., Bloomington). The recital is part of the “Illinois Wesleyan University New Music Series” and is free and open to the public.
The recital will highlight pieces by Scott Schumann, a junior music composition major; Queenie Li, first-year business administration major; Jesse Schaar, first-year physics major and Ben Junya, a first-year music education major.
The program will begin with Junya’s composition, Sizzle (for Sara) I. Into the Frying Pan II. Chopper, featuring Junya on snare drum. Schaar will perform his piece, Vibraphone Experiment #57 on vibraphone and Schumann’s (reflection) will feature junior Matthew Huddle on violoncello. The final piece of the program will be Li’s composition, With Eyes Closed featuring junior Evan Tammen on oboe, first-year Jack Hanlon on alto saxophone, first-year Kevin Quinn, Schaar, Junya and sophomore Mari Mermelstein on percussion, first-year Sara Ghadiri on contrabass and junior Claude Villacorta with vocals.
